Richardson Officials Say Groundbreaking Signals Strength In Telecom Corridor® Area

Texas Instruments, UT Dallas Facilities Expected To Act As 'Magnet For Further Growth'

With an eye on the future, the city of Richardson celebrated last week as Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) and the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) held a simultaneous, virtual groundbreaking on two new facilities sure to bring new jobs and bright minds to the area for decades to come.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry provided the keynote address at the breakfast ceremony and joined TI Chairman Tom Engibous, UTD President Franklyn Jenifer and other dignitaries in marking the start of construction on a $3 billion, one-million-square-foot semiconductor chip plant for Texas Instruments and an $85 million, 192,000-square-foot Natural Sciences and Engineering Research building for The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).

33rd Annual Christmas Parade Set For Dec. 4

The 33rd annual Richardson Christmas Parade, under the theme “We're All Kids at Christmas,” will kick off the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 9 a.m.

Returning to the west side of town, the parade will travel north on Coit Road from Cherrywood to Melrose. Dave Peters, 2003 RCC citizen of the year, will serve as grand marshal for the event.

RISD, PISD Superintendents To Discuss Challenges Facing Public Schools

RISD Superintendent Jim Nelson and PISD Superintendent Doug Otto will be the keynote speakers at a breakfast forum co-hosted by the RCC's Public Affairs & Education committees on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The two superintendents will discuss the “real issues” driving the financial crisis being faced by local public schools and how today's public school environment will impact the business community in a speech titled "Challenges Facing Today's Public Schools: RISD & PISD Superintendents Report."

The event will be held at The Richardson Hotel, 701 E. Campbell Road. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The program will run from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. The cost is $21 per person.
