Semiconductor Cluster
Richardson’s semiconductor cluster led by Texas Instruments, whose corporate headquarters borders southern city limits of Richardson.
- Texas Instruments (www.ti.com) and Richardson
- TI connected to Richardson since the mid-1950’s as many TI
employees choose to live in nearby Richardson.
- TI completed RFAB in June 2006 - a $321 million, 1.1 million SF wafer facility on 92 acres at 300 W. Renner Road in Richardson.
- RFAB is first LEED-certified semiconductor facility in the world.
- Equipping new fab depends on market conditions - may be 2009 or 2010 before expected $2.5 billion capital investment takes place.
- Manufacturing on 45-nanometer and beyond chips on 300mmwafers, approx 12” in diameter.
- Once in production, RFAB chips will be used in cell phones, digital cameras, wireless devices.
- RFAB expects to employ 1,000 engineers and technicians when
fully operational.

- TriQuint Semiconductor (www.triquint.com)
- Major facility located adjacent to RFAB at 500 W. Renner
- Manufactures gallium arsenide integrated circuits.
- Employs over 300
