Richardson has been successful in fostering an entrepreneurial environment since the 1950’s. Building on foundations established at Texas Instruments and Collins Radio (now Rockwell Collins), and at The University of Texas at Dallas (created by the TI founders in the late 1960's), entrepreneurs and their companies are exploring emerging technologies such as RFID, nanotechnology, wireless telecommunications and life sciences. The Richardson Chamber helped to establish STARTech (add link), a local business accelerator, in the mid-1990's to nurture and fund the entrepreneurial talent in these new emerging technologies.
